The world's oceans are commoly divided into several major oceans and smaller seas. The three principal oceans are the Atlantic ocean, the Pacific ocean, and the Indian ocean. These vast oceans also connect with what is sometimes called the Southern ocean, the body of water that surrounds the Antarctic continent. Most of the smaller seas occer in the Northern Hemisphere and are enclosed by land or surrounded by islad systems. These lesser oceans include the arctic ocean, the Mediterranean, the caribbean, and the Bering Sea, among others.
